As the third generation carrying this legacy forward, she continues the ministry’s work with gratitude, vision, and a steadfast desire to honor the foundation laid by those who came before her.

Her Calling
Dr. Renée Lewis was designated as President and CEO of GoodWorks Global Ministries in September 2015. She was officially installed in July 2026. As CEO and granddaughter of the founder, Pastor Buford Shaw, and daughter of Pastor Beverly Lewis, Dr. Renée Lewis possesses personal, firsthand institutional knowledge of the organization and is the steward of God’s vision for the ministry.
She counts it an honor, a privilege and a blessing to be the third generation carrying on the 79-year-old legacy begun by her grandfather. Like her mother, Dr. Renée Lewis was literally “born” into ministry and her spiritual gifts are a testament to that God-given legacy. She was saved, sanctified and filled with the Holy Spirit at the age of nine during a revival at Atlantic Temple Church (now GWGM).
Her Professional Journey
Dr. Renée Lewis is an internationally-recognized academic, author, speaker, entrepreneur and retired Assistant Professor of English and Communication Studies at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN. In 2006, Dr. Renée retired after ten years of teaching at the collegiate level, to start Dr. Renée Lewis Communications, an online multimedia publishing company and boutique consultancy.
She received her B.A. in Speech Communication with minors in English and Broadcasting from Belmont University in Nashville, TN. She received the M.A. in English with a minor in Speech Communication from Middle Tennessee State University. On May 10, 2003, Dr. Renée earned the first Ph.D. ever awarded in the 92-year history of MTSU.
She is the author of Dr. Renée Lewis’s Claim the Impossible Survival Guide: What to Say and What to Do When Toxic Talk Makes Your Life Absolutely Impossible!, and Talk the Talk. As a professional speaker and lecturer, Dr. Renée has shared her message of promoting healthy communication throughout the U.S. and abroad, most notably at The Third International Conference on New Directions in the Humanities at the University of Cambridge, in Cambridge UK, the Fourth Annual Hawaii International Conference on Arts and Humanities in Honolulu, HI, the National Association for Ethnic Studies 33rd Annual Conference in Chicago, IL, and the Sixth International Conference on Diversity in Organizations, Communities and Nations in New Orleans, LA.
Education and Service
Dr. Renée began her professional career at the age of 15, as a disc jockey at 93.3 WKQD-FM, a 100,000 watts radio station once headquartered in Tennessee and Alabama. She is the founder of The First Things Foundation for Positive Change, an educational nonprofit that promotes educational excellence, particularly the literacy of children and families.
The FTFPC oversees the publication and distribution of Dr. Renée Lewis’s My Official School Book, a learning tool dedicated to making the learning experience exciting for children.
Her Continuing Impact
As a PK and PGK—Preachers’ Kid and Preacher’s Grand Kid, Dr. Renée Lewis was literally built and called to be the voice of the next generation to carry this ministry forward. And she is honored and humbled to carry out this calling as she fulfills her God-given purpose.
